I recently came across a quote by Gayle Forman which really moved me. It showed me the sheer importance of one day. What she said was:
“We are born in one day. We die in one day. We can change in one day. And we can fall in love in one day. Anything can happen in just one day.”
I truly believe this. Because I have lived all but one of these things on the list, in just one day. You could probably write more yourself “You can have your heart broken in one day. You can receive scary test results in one day. You can move country in one day. You can lose your health in one day.”
But it could go either way: “You can receive good test results in one day. You can make a friend in one day. You can come home in one day. You can smile in one day. You can find your confidence in one day. You can feel loved in one day. You can try something new in one day. You can get a new job in one day. You can learn a new skill in one day. You can meet someone special in one day. You can appreciate the little things in one day.”
The possibilities are endless… So much can happen in just one day. Our job is to be open to the good things that can happen and strong enough to carry the difficult things that can happen. This doesn’t have to be alone. Don’t forget; If you are carrying something heavy, it is always better to share the load, share it with those you trust and those you love.
Yes, it is true… that lots can change in just one day. It is a scary thought, that the world you know can completely change in one day. I think at this point, everyone around the world can empathise with this for one of the first times in history. In one day we are forced to take shelter in our homes. In one day we are told we cannot see friends and loved ones in person. In one day we must work from home. In one day we must home school our children, in order to take care of ourselves and others. Yes it can be scary what can happen in just one day.
But on the other side of the coin, think of the truly wonderful things that can happen in just one day. You can appreciate your health in one day. You can do a jigsaw with your loved ones in one day. You can do a video call to see the faces you love in one day. You can exercise in one day, You can chill out in one day. You can have deep conversations in one day. You can sleep in one day. You can clap for heroes in one day. You can find gratitude for the things you do have in one day.
And beyond that, in the one days to come… We can go outside in one day. We can travel in one day. We can hug in one day. We can laugh in one day. We can run in one day. We can say ‘I do’ in one day. We can swim in the ocean in one day. We can lay on the sand in one day. We can jump on a plane in one day. We can kiss in one day. We can see somewhere new in one day. We can have babies in one day. We can feel the sunshine on our skin in one day. We can dance in one day. We can love in one day. We can learn something new in one day.
Yes, although scary things can happen in one day, that shake you to your very core. It also must mean that the opposite is true and marvellous, earth moving things can also happen in one day. And they can.
Take comfort in the thought that: There will be another one day, and anything could happen in it…
“What a wonderful thought it is that some of the best days of our lives haven’t happened yet.”
A Frank.
Which is why I believe in trying to live each day as if it is your last. When you feel as though your worst days have happened, what do you have to lose?
When your next one day comes… What will you make of it?

Although the world seems like a scary place right now, we are taking each day as it comes and making the most of every moment. We stopped reading news and instead, we read books, cook healthy meals and cherish those little moments. Thanks for sharing and inspiring 😀 Aiva
